Thanks Brian,

13kg of sunflower hearts at wilkinsons would knock me back £26 - my maths isn't too good but I still reckon that's a saving of £8 - nice one:t:

Cheers, Dougie

Good link Brian, we visited the shop not long after it first opened for our lasses ginger tom:eek!:, its sign posted from the Shields to Jarrow tunnel road. What we did not like about the shop was no prices were on display(this might have changed now), the web sites great.

Trip up on the moors this morning, didn't see anything other than Red Grouse. So headed back to Clara Vale and met up with Mick & Joanne - place was very quiet, but did manage to spot a Treecreeper and we thought we had a very fleeting glimpse of a Goldcrest.

Had a ride down to Far Pasture got Mallards, Teal, Sparrowhawk & a Little Grebe with a fish. A trip to Thornley produced a very pleasant suprise, all of the overgrown bits have been trimmed down :t: Got a great show of a Kestrel chasing dragonflies (we think) along with a distant Roe Deer in the far field plus the usual Tit's, Nut Hatches and GS Woodpecker.

COASTAL CONSERVATION GROUP - TURNED OUT NICE AGAIN
Hi folks,

With the festive season fast approaching, I was just wondering if anyone fancies a bit of a social ‘get together’ for a beer or two nearer Christmas?

I was thinking of somewhere central for everyone, i.e. the Whitburn lodge or the Britannia in Cleadon but would welcome alternative suggestions from others – the venue is not an issue, I just think it would be nice for us all to put faces to (user) names and share a bit birdy banter over a few drinks..B :)

I have already ran this idea past a few regular posters on the thread and it seems to have been given the provisional ‘thumbs up’ - so who else is up for it? – You never know, it could end up a canny night:-O

Cheers, Dougie.:t:

Hi Derek, great shots mate :t: - I had the Treecreeper very briefly at Thornley yesterday in the silver birch to the right of the hide but couldn't get a decent focus due to all the branches in front of it - a similar situation happened with the GSW but it did, at least, allow one or two shots during its short visit.

Cheers, Dougie.

Hiya Dougie, thanks mate - good spot with the treecreeper, i saw it there either early this year or last year - i couldn't get a focus because i was too close :-O
It let me open the window, put the bean bag on the sill, put the cam on the bean bag - but when i couldn't focus, i decided to move back, soon as i moved an inch - off it went :-C

PS as long as i'm not away with work i'll up for the social event - whitburn lodge / britannia sounds good to me.

I am up for it if it fits in with my 'domestic arrangements'. :t: I will take the 'Dad's Taxi' sign off the top of my car for the night if I can.:-O:-O Just let me know what date you are planning. I hope we don't have to come dressed up as robins - or turkeys (god forbid!!).

I hope you know that this will set tongues wagging - South tyneside a canny thread and sociable as well. Too much for some people ;);

I don,t think tongue wagging bothers us now on this thread Brian, its a collective view of our area and i for one could not give a toss what people think!:t: Bird Forum is a great way of meeting similar minded people and voicing your opion, even if we do not like the response.
Dougie got the words out before me on Saterday when i met him.:-O:t:

I think we have had our autumn for birds last month the weather forecast for the coming week is much of the same strong south westerly winds and rain at times. No good whats so ever for our patch and east coast birders.Just hope the weather pattern changes soon and we get some late migrants on the coast. The first 2 weeks of Nov can be good for birds Pallas's Warblers often turn up then.Have to keep our fingers crossed.I am still seeing the Coals Tits in my street and garden they seem to be hanging around be interesting to see if they will over winter.

Aye, Octobers a bit of a let down after Super-september...
although Barnacle Geese, Jack Snipe, Slavonian Grebe & Little Egret all seen in South Tyneside today :t:

Hi Steve could be one of the worst Octobers on record for the east coast the way things are with this endless westerly airflow we have. Its alright for birders living in Ireland and Cornwall they have had a excellent October so far.But i think its our turn to see some good birds.Have noticed sometimes when we have had a excellent September,October can be a bit of a let down for birds.

Hi Dougie,

What a champion idea:t:.

Count me in (if non S/Tyneside residents are welcome;)). From my point of view somewhere close to a metro station would be a help, but it's not a major issue either way.

Hi Mick:t: - you're very welcome mate;)

I'll propose 'Sleepers' in East Boldon as a possible venue then - straight off the metro and into the pub - sounds good to meB :)

How's that for everyone else?

Cheers, Dougie.
