Once again the world finds itself at a turning (tipping?) point ....

There have been many modern 'attempts' to change the course of the destructive Industrial Agriculture juggernaut - most with scant impact at scale, because that behemoth is the one that the capitalist system rewards .... by writing off (or never accounting for in the first place) the costs of degradation, unsustainable use, and outright destruction.

Now with the 'shock' of COVID an increasing number of people are starting to contemplate health - it's links to food - food production - and the land.

From the nascent hippy movement (whatever happened to that ?!) and organic produce (thankfully ageing a bit truer than those hippies) , to permaculture, and regenerative agriculture and low/natural input Natural Sequence Farming, and Pasture Cropping, and Multi-Species/Holistic Grazing, etc an understanding of caring for the earth as an integral part of the equation has emerged.

This is aligning more and more with traditional Indigenous Wisdom - working with nature, instead of fighting it, dominating it. As more and more 'disasters' unfold (climate, drought, wildfire, pandemics, etc), more and more questions are asked, and more and more converts arise.

The key factor is the involvement of all stakeholders. The techniques employed essentially are an application of traditional burning methods used successfully for centuries. The hope is that this approach will be increasingly adopted over the whole of Australia. The major task facing them is getting the large-scale agriculture behemoth on board

Yes - AWC are doing good work. Bush Heritage Australia too.
Their greatest successes have come from the fully fenced feral predator proof reserves.
I think most Australians were scared enough last summer (when inferno's raged at 2am and minimum overnight temperatures hovered in the mid thirties - Celsius - what the British call a daytime heatwave !) that they are becoming increasingly open to traditional knowledge. There is still the Capitalist driver to overcome though.

The other big factor is the role of native animals - often the smaller ones that have borne the brunt of feral predator pressures - too often to extinction, either completely, or locally. These are now being recognized by Western science as integral to the health and functioning of the landscape. They are every bit as important for soil health and fire prevention as the cool soil carbon building pyrolitic cultural burns.

In the wake of the devastating widespread inferno last summer, and the Covid pandemic and resultant fiscal pump priming - the amount of funds allocated to feral control are only in the ten-thousandths of a percent of those allocated to fast tracking infrastructure projects (with attendant 'streamlining' of environmental 'red tape').

Outside of these tiny fenced reserves we are just going backwards at a rapid rate (75% threatened plant species population declines over the last ~20 years ....) . Deets here:
