Not quite in the same giddy heights of minefield/ dead body birding. . .  but some examples . . Hitchhiking in Turkey at night a fair bit (not all that dodgy). In the USA at night in cities- mmmm, a bit more dodgy. . . . Being picked up by a raving persistent homosexual Lorry Driver in the US who probably should have been locked up for crimes against humanity . . . etc etcChased a bear through the woods at 10,000 feet in Yosemite National Park when it stole my rucksack. Throwing pine cones, rocks at it and shouting my head off . . . until eventually he dropped it and made off with a smaller bag instead, containing my flight ticket home and some money . . . Phoned my parents before going down into the Grand Canyon for a nights camping, then I didn't call again for 3 weeks . . .
