[QUOTE="Smithhill, post: 1836184, member: 57837"] OK, some more information. I see that the Kowa scope has a reported focal length of 650 to 1000mm. So, with a 25mm eyepiece, and a LX3 there would be a use-full zoom range of from 830 mm to 2400mm equivalent. I also seems very easy to make an adapter for the Kowa scope to use standard astro eyepieces. See the following Birdforum post with description and pictures. Yes, I have made adapters out of plastic pipe before too with a rotary file in a drill press. A $500 lathe would seem to pay for itself in time and money. Or, find a local machine shop to do a professional job. The scope mounting is 1.5 inches inside diameter and so a spacer is easily made for the 1.25 barrel of an astro eyepiece.
