Is this a Great Spotted Woodpecker? (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone, pretty keen birdwatcher and my mate sent me this, he lives near Dungiven. I think it may be a Great Spotted Woodpecker as he said there was some red on it, which ruled out a Jay. What do you all think?

I've a pal Garvagh direction and he has started seeing woodpeckers, not really that far from Dungiven. Sorry I've only seen GSP on TV and webcams but it looks the right attitude / behaviour to me.

Hi, definitely not a Jay and I would say almost definitely a woodpecker

Hi, definitely not a Jay and almost definitely a woodpecker - especially likely with that adjacent woodland. Good spot! Lovely visitor to have at the feeder. 👍🏻

Yes I called out and it certainly is a Great Spotted Woodpecker, he now has 2 regularly visiting, a male and a female. I also have seen a post of someone having a regular visit in Enniskillen, so quite widespread. I'm hoping the mate will see some young ones around in a while.

Yes they are slowly becoming more widespread. Oxford Island and Derrytrasna have both had regular sightings
