Hello,
I think that all this birds are Javan Pond-herons but I'm not sure because my book shows them only in south Vietnam.

Photos 1-3 are from Cat Tien NP, 4 Dalat, 5 Saigon.

Can you help me?

Pond herons are virtually indistinguishable in nonbreeding plumage. From range I think all but the last bird should be Chinese actually.

Is that some retained breeding plumage on the nape of the last bird? I've certainly seen pond herons with varying amounts of breeding plumage in 'winter'. If so it looks rather like Javan. Not sure if you can discount that species at the other locations as I believe the range has expanded.

Check out this interesting blog about winter pond herons

I've had a few thoughts myself and still adding to them.
