Photos taken in Belfast, Ireland.
First, just to confirm, this is a Herring gull?
There is very little black that I can see on the primaries, although I can just about see a bit of black and white.
I caught it briefly in flight and didn't notice the typical black wing tips I normally see on a Herring gull in flight, but I didn't get a good look.
The gull also to my eye looks shorter in the body.
Is this a moutling sub-adult bird? Is it missing some of its primary feathers? Or does it just have its wings tucked in a strange way?
Would love to know!
