ISO Portable - NOT CELL PHONE APP - Bird Call Indentifier (1 Viewer)

My mom seems to think/recall there is a product that is portable you can hold in the direction of bird calls and it will identify the bird. She is 89 years old with bad eyesight and she struggles with cell phones and app tech so that is not an option.

Is anyone aware of such a device?

I am not aware of any such device. All the apps that do sound id do so on the cloud. They upload the sound to a remote server that does all the work. Whilst it would be possible to make a device that replicated all the necessary smartphone functions in a single purpose bird id device it would be expensive and a very limited market.

There are a couple of devices out there that claim to do what you want, one is simply a remote mic that Bluetooths the sound to your phone and then uses an app. The other one plays prerecorded sounds to allow you to compare, and it only includes 40 NA birds.
