Italian Alps in July, esp. Wallcreeper (2 Viewers)

tapaculo

Mildly Obsessed
I will likely be in the Italian Alps (west of Bolzano) in July and would be grateful for information on birds in the area, especially alpine species, especially Wallcreeper. It's not far from Innsbruck, either, so we might be able to get to nearby Austria (or Germany or Switzerland), but hope there are some good places in that area of Italy, such as Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio. And would love to meet up with any birders in the area.

Grazie...

Wallcreeper

Hi,

Alps I know only from climbing.
For Germany is only a german page
http://www.birdinggermany.de/bayern.htm

There is written 100 bp of wallcreeper in Germany especially in nationalparc "Berchtesgardener Land" and near town Garmisch Patenkirchen.
Also valley "Krumltal" ( Austria ) 85 km south of Bad Reichenhall, should be a good viewpoint for wallcreeper.

For South Tirol e.g.
http://www.valgardena.it/?pagid=48&newlang=eng

If You look for Golden Eagles, Spitzingsee in south of Munich is good ( guided tours every wednesday ). Also very good is nationalparc "Hohe Tauern" in Austria.

Also vultures are in the Alps

Another information

the author of this page is Christoph Moning. He has very good knowledge of Bavarian area and sure also of Tirol and Southtirol. He is also author from birdwatching books.

Best regards

Hi tapaculo

I had a Wallcreeper at Krimml waterfall in Austria last June. It was on the crag to the right of the path near the top of the waterfall. There was also Nutcracker here as well. Krimml is about an hours drive from Innsbruck.

Here is a link to my trip report, it will give you some idea about the bird you can see in this part of the Alps. http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=36557&highlight=Austria Hope this helps

Wallcreeper

Hi,

wallcreeper I saw only in east of Bolzano.
The place was via ferrata Maximilansteig ( easy ) in east of natureparc Schlern.
Seems good place is in small ways, between 2 high rocks.

Best regards
Dieter
