All seen early to mid October.

1) Seen at Bellagio / Lake Como. Noticed the 'clean' beak colors.

2) Seen at Verona. Noticed the 'dirty' beak markings, with the black / grey inclusions.

3) Seen at Bellagio / Lake Como. Black-headed or Mediterranean?

4) See in Verona. The dark spot seems a bit more smeared than in 3 and maybe the beak is slightly different. Same specie or did I manage to see both?

Thanks!

Agree so far...

My initial thought on #1 was LBB but considering the strong light and the brutish head and driller it looks YLG to me but with a very strong cast on the mantle...

such crosses exist but i see no evidence for a hybrid here. mantle colour in photos can be extremely deceptive in large gulls due to lighting conditions. the large and high bill with strong gonys angle definitely is of a male michahellis.
