Joanna Page's Wild Life 6.30pm BBC2 (5 Viewers)

Euan Buchan

The Edinburgh Birdwatcher
Scotland
This new series starts tomorrow itvcombines her lifelong passion for wildlife and her infectious personality, as she embarks on her journey to learn what it takes to become a wildlife rescue volunteer. Can she master the three ‘R’s’: Rescue, Rehab and Release?

Watch this if you must but don't be tempted to give money to Mrs Tiggywinkles or any other non-conservation bleeding heart charity: join your county wildlife trust and the RSPB which though flawed does more good work than bad.

New year, same old rubbish 'celebrity' with life long interest in something that they've never made an effort with until the BBC dangle a large cheque and film crew in front of them... I won't be watching as I'll be too preoccupied with pushing red hot tea spoons into my eyeballs, I'm sure it'll be more enjoyable and worthwhile. I wonder how many illegal releases of injured then 'mended' grey squirrels she'll be involved with?. I agree with John about not funding these places.

Thought I'd better watch the first one to justify commenting. Exactly as Walter says. I'd comment further that if this is what the BBC is spending on instead of the Watches then it needs its corporate head examining and to get back as quickly as possible to John Reith's core principles.

Watched again last night and one of the segments was about releasing some juvenile Robins and Dunnocks. The staff put them through a load of stress netting them in their aviary and then released them in the grounds of the rescue centre a few dozen yards away. Why not just open the aviary door and leave them to get on with it?

For me the BBC became unwatchable years ago. The premise of the BBC Charter is that it's funded in a way that enables it to make high-quality content without the commercial imperative to sell advertising time. It seems to have completely abandoned the sort of lofty goals that produced Life on Earth in favour of vomiting out this sort of "Celeb does a thing" rubbish. The BBC is no longer fit for purpose and needs to be euthanised.
