My real name is Mark Lewis
I also think night heron for the first one. the second one though has got me really stumped. I can't even decide whether its grey or green. Or greyish greeny.

Ok, I'll give you clues for both birds:

1. Is a water faring bird that is rare in the UK and is famed to have been a long stay bird in a lake (lake not being named) in south-west England during the 1960s.

2. Is said to be a monotypic bird in the genus of Xema.

I've probably given them away ;)

Yes number two is Sabine's Gull, well done, perhaps that one was too much of a give away, but it's good to test your knowledge on birds as well as your IDing skills. As for the first one, that's still to be answered. I will try and convert the cropped images back to their original form if I can, but I have forgotten how to.

I'm afraid that is incorrect, maltese falcon. I think someone will get it eventually, however, if they cast their mind back. o:)

Hmmm.. ok... just to say this bird was a first for Britain at the time, and was first seen at Blagdon Lake in 1963 (and stayed until 1968), having checked the dates on various internet sources. ;)
