I have never knowingly caught Dark Spectacle but could easily have overlooked them. One of the local gurus pointed out the three separate streaks at the apex of the wing which is distinct from a general dark smudge on the ordinary Spectacle - something I had never heard of before. Ken's photo shows this really well.Only one in the pot this am!
A lifer for me in NELondon, Dark Spectacle thought it might be of interest.
Cheers
I had 215 moths of 70 species last night, but just one new for the garden (Latticed Heath) and ten new for the year. One of my largest ever catches this morning, 189 moths of 53 species. It has taken me all morning going through everything, and I have given up on two micros that would be new for me.
Boosted by a big influx of 60 Willow Ermines.
A whopping 18 NFY including a lifer (Argyresthia semifusca) and a garden tick (Oak Hook-tip).
Time for lunch now.
Nice to see some pics of less familiar moths. Whereabouts are you based?I don't have a trap set up, just whatever shows up on the side of the house near my porch lights. Not a bad month so far.
