Early showers, nicer, but still the odd spot of rain afternoon. Evening blue sky, but a lot more rain to come tomorrow.

It's been a dry day! Plenty of sunshine, a stiff breeze, but really rather pleasant. As Val hints, tomorrow does not look as though it will bring the same accolades down this way!

Well 40 days of rain then! It was St Swithins day yesterday!o:D

Dry and sunny spells at present but heavy rain forecast for later today and in to tomorrow!

Was mixed cloudy and sunny first thing today, walked down to the local nature reserve. There were a few short light showers, nothing too bad but around 10-10.15 the heavens opened and a thunderstorm started, really close! I dashed for the shelter of a low metal footbridge (along with a banded demoiselle that was perching on the metal structure just by where I crouched) but being under a metal bridge surrounded by tall trees didn't seem a brilliant idea so I legged it to the brick viaduct, soaked through to the skin and squelching in my shoes by the time I got there. Lightning was going off all around me really close and another guy sheltering at the viaduct was jumping at some of the lightning, which really was VERY close!

Lots of localised flooding in the town, some of the roads were kerb-deep in water and others had little rivers running across them. The river Chelmer looked a bit swollen too, unsurprising given how much rain fell. It was so heavy that my hat absorbed so much water that it was falling down over my eyes and I had to wring it out when waiting under the viaduct! Got the bus home and am drying off and warming up now with a hot drink - going to have a bath in a mo, get some warmth back in me - was pretty chilly walking in the wind in soaking clothes!

Still, I did manage to see a Blackcap and get some poor photos of it and saw lots of either small or essex skippers... need to check the photos and probably post some in the butterfly forum for some help with ID.

Oh dear, Fozzy, you really did catch it didn't you! ;) Enjoy your warming bath and drink.

Here we had 11mm in the 24 hours to 09.00GMT, some heavy showers in the last couple of hours, less heavy now. There is a nasty looking line of thundery showers to the east of us here and the NE of England is taking a real hammering. Maybe we shall hear from Gill later.

Hope you have defrosted now, Fozzy! Not nice to get caught up in such a storm!

Breezy and the odd shower here at present.

Yes, we have a monsoon AND a hurricane up here today :-O

It was raining fairly heavy from 4pm yesterday as Neil and I drove up from North Shields and we had a small thunderstorm as we got back home.
This morning was steady rain but still very muggy but now the wind has become very strong and the rain is coming down in sheets :smoke: It's rather chilly too! I've closed all the windows for what must be the first time in a month! :king:

A lazy evening in front of the fire with a good book methinks! ;)

Well Gill a Hurrican sounds a bit more exciting to deal with.

We had a Moonson and a huge thunderstorm this afternoon. What a palava. OH was sorting out stuff in the van for removel and he had to dive into the house for shelter.

What a carry on. :eek!:

Wet and soggy here this afternoon, otherwise. :gh:

Thanks all - yes all dried out and warmed up now, a couple of coffees and a bath helped a lot! Fortunately it's still quite warm so as soon as I got out of the wind and the wet clothes I felt a lot better. :t:

Wasn't too bad as I'm used to bad weather and getting wet, but not as much as that! It was funny that when the storm started easing off and I walked back into town there were people getting out of their cars and running for shelter even though there were only a few drips and drops by then! Always used to make me laugh when people would come in at work complaining that they got wet crossing the car park when I'd had to walk a couple of miles in the rain. Bunch of wimps! ;)

Yes, folk DO complain about even the tiniest bit of rain :-O One of my customers this morning was complaining ''Oh when are we going to get a summer this year?'' :eek!: I just looked at her and said ''But it's been boiling hot since the end of May and this is the first bit of proper rain we've had!!!'' :smoke: She's never happy that one! :-O

Just been out to the shops as I had no milk and it wasn't too bad...once I'd put my long riding coat on which goes down to my ankles and has a hood ;)

This is all good practise for when we move to the Lakes ;):king:

The number of times I had the "we've had no summer at all" with my old workmates, even when I pointed out the long periods of blistering sunshine and then loaded up my photos of the sunny weather they wouldn't accept it! Nutters, you have to make the most of the weather and enjoy it when you've got it... if you keep seeing bad things then you'll never be happy.

We had some downpours on holiday in Norfolk (mostly fantastic weather though!) but I didn't let those periods get me down or stop me going out and some of the best wildlife I saw was when the rain stopped, especially when the Barn Owl came out and started hunting over the marshes - that made getting soaked totally worth it! :t:

Thank heavens it's not just ME who has folk saying that :smoke: I was beginning to think it was just me being weird because I love the Brituish weather and whatever it throws at us. :t: Well....not a HUGE fan of this muggy heat we've had lately as I hate feeling sticky but rain/frost/snow/wind - nowt bothers me :king: I just wrap up warm and get out there :t:

Most people have selective memories about the weather in this country. If it has affected them in some way (for better or worse) they will remember it, otherwise it is blanked out. Anyway, we like nothing better than to have a moan about the weather and how accurately (or not) the forecast has been. ;)

I belong to a weather forum and excitment there about all types of weather is like a breath of fresh air! Long live the changeable British weather!:D
