Is this a form you record often Brian? Ive caught 50+ Peppereds this year and every single one has ben the typical rural form, even though I'm nearer the city!

Here's to another Great Brocade invasion for us. I missed out on one during the last invasion despite some serious effort and people all around me catching them.

Only my second ever Peach Blossom last night.

Nice clearwing Svein.
Last night was a bit less frantic. Don't think my nerves could stand too many 500 moth nights - processing them before leaving for work at 745 was a bit stressful!
Several new micros last night, including a smart Giold Triangle. Also my first Herald for a while, a second White Satin and a very fresh Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing NFY.

Garden first for me with Large Emerald. The Miller, Brown-tail and Leopard moth were all nice too. Elephant once again the only hawk.

Some nice shots there Brian and Svein, beautiful Clearwing Svein and a stonking Peppered moth Brian.I've only ever had one carbonaria and that was on a wall of an Esso petrol station in Cheshire.

Manic last night,464 moths in 100 species with still a few to go through and just managed to get in before it threw it down!.Some NFY's that included....

Double square spot
Marbled coronet
Dwarf cream wave

Nice photos Brian and Svein.
New for the year from last night in the actinic:

Buff-tip (2)
July Highflyer (new for the garden)
Brown Tail
Swallowtailed moth
Common Wave

Just on 100 moths and 50 species - I can cope with that.
But too many pugs which need to be id-ed. :-C and some micros as usual.

Also one Hornet which landed on the trap as I was inspecting it - looking for breakfast no doubt.

Rustic
Foxglove Pug
Crambus pascuella
Eudomia mercurella
The last week has been one of the most productive I have ever had - let's hope July continues the same way.

You'll soon be entering the wonderful world of IDing moths from their scattered wings ;)

I've had mostly lime hawk with a few elephants so far this year. I usually get quite a few poplars and some pines.

A Welsh birder in Dorset!
Spent the night at a Gwent Wildllife trust reserve in the Wye Valley, 105 macro species recorded.
highlights were

Cloaked Carpet
Sharp angled Carpet
Treble brown spot
Slender Brindle
Clouded Brindle
Rosy Footman
Beautifu hooktip
Pretty Chalk Carpet
and Haworth's Pug

Some of those might be quite common but they were firsts for me. It was also good to get one up on my county recorder, who has never seen Cloaked Carpet in Gwent!

Well done Luke! some nice sightings there.

I can add from last night a very unseasonal Early grey and i'm waiting on id confirmation,or dissection if required,on a very local species Crambus uliginosellus which would be a new life species for me.

Buff Footman new last night and Dingy Shears from the night before.
Fewer moths last night, presumably as it was so clear. Only 250 or so; still to sort some of the micros.

Coronet also NFY from last night's catch.

Spent the afternoon running a couple of lures in the garden -

First were 3 Orange-tailed Clearwings, including 2 immaculate males and an old faded one with creamy tail-fan and dull markings.
Then a Large Red-belted Clearwing came in briefly, but evaded capture for a photo. Will have to try again tomorrow for this one if the rain holds off.

Were you using the VES lure for the Orange-tails and how long before they responded? I tried for this species and Yellow-legged in Bluebell Wood today and failed. Also failed to attract Red-tipped in the osier beds. Perhaps my lures are getting a bit old.
