Fantastic night last night- Took a while to go through them all. From trap which is in garden about 9 miles north of Norwich had over 113 moths - 47+ macro species. I have only been trapping for a couple of years so 8 new ones:

Best were:

Red-necked Footman - I think there have been under 100 in Norfolk!?

Alder Kitten
Clouded Magpie
Lobster Moth x2
Latticed Heath
Sandy Carpet
Brown-silver Lines

Elephant Hawkmoth x 9 !
Poplar Hawkm x1
Privet Hawkmoth x2

and many more!
Surprisingly... no Underwings yet?

I placed the trap amongst shrubs last night and was rewarded with plenty of Mottled Beauties this morning. Amongst the rest were a couple new for the year

Common Wave
Buff Arches

Others included Lime Hawk, Burnished Brass, Beautiful Golden Y and Buff Tip.

Bah humbug
Having read of people's mothing exploits over the last few nights got the trap out a few days ago to try and see if our Swanley garden could perform... unfortunately it didn't .... ;)

Still having trouble confirming some ids, but 4 micros, and about 17 individuals total of about 11 Macro species!!!!!

Garden Carpet 2
Heart and Dart 2
Light Brocade 1 (probable)
Riband Wave 1 (new)
Willow Beauty 6 (expect that's what they'll turn out to be!)
Blotched Emerald 1 (new!)
Barred Yellow 1 (new)
Dark Arches 1
and 2 Pugs....

Probably because it's an actinic and we have a small suburban garden, and I positioned the trap to make it less likely that the neighbours (and hence moths) will see it and be tempted to throw random things at it in the night ..... ;)

had my first yellow shell last night, as well as the first hawk-moth for my garden (poplar) and a clouded silver which escaped only to land right on my fingertip. the large yellow underwings (had 4 now, not really looking forward to when that 4 becomes 400 i must say!) are starting to emerge here, as well as the magpies (had 2), whilst the willow beautys continue to be my most common macro (bee moths being the most common micro).

Small Yellow Wave
Brussels Lace
Pine Hawk-moth
Tawny Prominent
Barred Straw
White-pinion Spotted

Could that be P. aurata? Any shots with the wings open (or the underside)?

Hi Brian, I did wonder about p.aurata . Sorry, no other photos that'll help. What should I have looked for? It looked far more purple that p.aurata which I've seen in my garden. But I know that doesn't necessarily mean it's purpuralis. Hmmmmm .... not sure now.

Well it was certainly a Hawk-moth night with 5 species turning up! i've never had 3 Hawk-moth species at once let alone 5.
Other highlights were a beautiful Orange Moth (I wonder how he got that name) and a Pug which is new for me that I am unsure of at the moment.

Quite a mild night at around 13c with a slight breeze and thankfully not many midges around this morning just a heap of lovely Moths to sort through!
