After Dan's useful reminder..... welcome to June!

Not as warm as I'd have liked last night but I put the trap out anyway, figuring something would happen.

It sort of did, 10/8 spp with three NFY: Beautiful Plume, Celypha lacunana and Cypress Carpet. Two each of Treble Lines and Heart and Dart were the only multiples and a Common Marbled Carpet the only thing out of the common run of stuff for the back garden.

Something all dark that got away was annoying.

John

Wet out last night so didn't run my blacklights, but incandescent bulbs brought in some nice ones.
Lifer and probable first state record of Falcate Sericoplaga

Warmer last night so trapped again. 15/12 spp which was nice, especially as three were NFY: Green Carpet (the non-green variant!), Dark Arches and Setaceous Hebrew Character.

Of the others, 3 Heart and Dart and 2 Treble Lines were the multiples while Epinotia bilunana made me work and Buff-tip was just one of my favourite moths: a Brimstone seemed set to fly away when I tried to put it on a leaf but a waved hand redirected it and it landed where I could get a pic, on a different leaf.

Edit: I forgot a dark morph Marbled Minor agg. Probably because it was an agg.

Top moth this morning, Beautiful Golden Y. Caught half a dozen in 2020, my first year of trapping, and none since. A bunch of NFYs too, Clouded Border, Bright-line Brown-eye, Small Clouded Brindle & Spectacle.

Good numbers this morning 28 moths 12 species . New for my garden , Foxglove Pug and Barred Yellow .plus 4 Garden Carpets , 2 Willow Beauties ,2 Green Pugs , 6 Pale Mottled Willow , 5 Heart and Dart , 1 Light Emerald , 2 White Ermine , 1 Buff Ermine , 2 Light Brown Apple Moths and 1 Yellow Shell .

And they're off.... Heart and Darts that is, 12 of them in the trap this morning, biggest single species catch of the year not made in the living room with the vacuum cleaner: other numbers much lower but three Setaceous Hebrew Characters and two each of Treble Lines and Crambus lathionellus. Total catch 25/10 spp.

Three NFY as well, Treble Brown Spot up the wall but reachable with the camera, Middle-barred Minor on the floor of the trap and then gone when I turned my back so no photo and Pyrausta aurata.

Bright-line Brown-eye best of the rest.

John

My first 100 species night of the year was 102 species to 5 lights at my local rewilding site on 1st June. Otherwise Buttoned Snout was a full fat patch tick and if I have calculated it correctly, my 471st macro species on my patch! :) Obscure Wainscot from my garden was my 235th species for the year. Species list and a few more pics in my yearlist thread:-

All the best

After just two moths on Monday (both outside the trap), drastic action was called for!
Replacing my “new” bulb, (gave a reasonable return earlier in the year) for my old 15W fluorescent tube, I struck gold last night c12 moths!!! in and (mostly) around the trap and parasol.- Green Pug, Brimstone, an early Blotched Emerald?, Garden Carpet, Scorched Wing and some assorted unknowns.

Anyway, last night was a bit cooler but still some moths: NFY Small Dusty Wave, numbers were three Treble Lines and six Heart and Dart: not much else of interest, Silver Y best.

John

Ditto to Small Dusty Wave as one of nine of 15 to include- NFY (Barred Sallow and Common Wainscott) + making-up the nos. Brimstone x3, as was Blotched and Light Emeralds also a “propa”Heart and Dart! and a Carpet sp.

I have never caught my own Clancy's Rustic despite seeing my first in 2003. It seems to be having a good year. Maybe this is the year for me to get one...

A pretty common occurrence in my bit of coastal Kent these days. Vine's even more so.

An Oligia sp this evening on the fence - probably one Id missed this morning.

Felt cool last night…had a couple of sps past the window with eventually one on the wall which I was able to frame..Small Magpie a (foy). With just 3 Micros in the trap + another Blotched Emerald in the parasol this am and annoyingly a Common White Wave, which escaped with two other sps.😩
