So that's where the fine weather went this week, Gill! Glad that it was good for you.

We had a mixture on Exmoor ranging from torrential rain, hail and sleet to long sunny intervals with little breeze and feeling warm. A report on the highlights when I've sorted all the photos and caught up with myself!

The weather up here both today and yesterday has been a mixture of hot sunny spells one minute then lots of black clouds rolling in and torrential rain which only lasts about ten minutes before clearing to leave sun again :king: Extremely warm too.

We are heading back over to the Lakes again on Tuesday morning and coming back on Friday :t: Perhaps this time I'll get over to Haweswater and see that elusive eagle :king: I've also got a couple of walks in areas where there's a good chance of Pied Flycatcher and Redstart and Tree pipit so fingers crossed. But even if I don't see any of these it'll just be wonderful to be in amongst all that glorious scenery once more o:)

I'm not really sure which B&B's are the best to be honest Peewit - we always stay at our friend's house in Glenridding or stay in a caravan for a week or so and visit various places from there.

Have a good break, Gill. Hope that the weather holds for you and the birds oblige too.

Pleasantly warm in the sun today with a breeze that help to dry all my washing!

Have a super break, Gill.

Again it's a lovely day here, with just a few big fluffy clouds. There is rain forecast for the next day or so though.

Lovely day with long sunny spells, warm and breezy...until about half an hour ago when we had a torrential downpour, thunder, lightning and hail! :eek!: 8mm fell in 20 minutes and everything is well soaked in the garden. Blame us, we went and bought a new hose and reel this afternoon.......:-O

I woke up at 4.30am this morning and it was all lovely and misty outside - very atmospheric :t: I admired the view and then went back to bed!!! ;)

Today has been very warm, almost muggy at times and sunny with the occasional grey cloudy spell. It as threatening to rain all afternoon but didn't actually start until about 6pm when we had a heavy shower. It's now stopped again and looks like it's brightening up.

We had some huge thunderstorms Monday evening here in east anglia too, there was serious lightning activity VERY close to my house, the local radio station got hit and Ipswich train station was evacuated when one of the chimneys got struck. We had monsoon rains and hail, at one point I thought we were going to get flooded out as my back garden was starting to disappear under water and out the front the entire road was a fast-moving river!

Walking into town yesterday the underpass was full of silty mud and the tide line showed it had been at least knee-deep in water - this underpass does tend to collect water though, there's a pump permanently fitted there for that reason!

I was in a thunderstorm only last Thursday when I was in Norfolk - one came over while I was in a hide at Cley Marshes and that was quite an experience - lots of rain was being forced through the gaps in the wood to form a large puddle on the floor and the lightning was striking very close (only a couple of seconds from flash to thunder - maybe a third of a mile away) making the whole structure shake! That was a rather interesting time!

Wow that sounds awesome Fozzy :king: I love a good storm!

We are back in the Lake District and yesterday was an absolute scorcher - I went for a short walk and found a fabulous spot on the bnanks of Ullwater that had great spotted woodpeckers feeding their young, redstart. spotted fl;ycatcher AND my very first tree pipit - all within the space of 100 yards!!! I only meant to be out a couple of hours and left hubby fixing a garage roof at 2pm.....I eventually came home at 7.30pm!!! :-O I was chatting to so many passing walkers and showing them the birdlife.....I should work for the RSPB ;):king:

Today is a lot different however - blustery wind and heavy rain so I don't think I'll be doing much birding this morning ;)

It was 5 p.m. in Cornwall, Gill, that the rain stopped. Not sure about here, but blue sky & sun there, here, still very cloudy.
