I recently came across this item on Ebay

its only $125 USD + $15 for shipping, it says only for parts. I am tempted to buy them and send them to Leica Service for repair , but they seem to have been water logged and it might need one new barrel, considering this same binocular is available now on ebay for $570 , It might be a lot more expensive to fix. Also this item is located in Pakistan, eventhough the seller has good reviews it might be a toss of the coin. Any thoughts?

I would say a hard PASS - move along, nothing to see here.

I see some of the objective body (armor) is worn away. I have a new body for a 42 BA that would work for
a donor to fix this binocular. Don't give up hope yet.

Edit to add:.
It looks like just the armor on the objective is worn away on the one for sale. Should be a breeze to fix.
My donor has the focuser, and it is smooth, but no internal components. The barrels have a separate
armor component.

Thank you so much Jerry for your help, I asked the owner of the broken binocular and he confirmed that the binocular has fungus inside, and I dont know if they would accept a binocular with fungus problems at Leica but I can always ask. How much do you want for your 42 BA Leica body.

Jorge R.

I am afraid shipping is worth more than the body. And you should investigate about Leica service,
I think they could fix this one, fungus or not. But I think the cost of repair could easily be more than
$500. US, I will just throw that number out there, just armor is hundreds, and the lenses could be bad.

You could buy a nice used example and be more satisfied. That is what I would recommend.
Jerry

The fungus is probably everywhere including non optics.

The binocular probably has no commercial value except for a repairer willing to waste time on it.

Unfortunately bad condition Leicas are overpriced because of the Leica name.

Regards,
B.
