Juv Herring or Lesser Black-backed - Scotland (1 Viewer)

Hmmm. That's funny

03 August 2018. Inverkeithing, Fife County, Scotland, UK. I originally thought Lesser Black-backed but now leaning towards Herring because of lack of dark base to greater coverts, broader dorsal fringing, and some pale to base of bill. But mostly dark unmarked tertials seem better for Lesser Black-backed. Nikon P510 CoolPix

Nice juvenile LBBG it is. Don't worry about the outer greater coverts, just very broad pale markings on them, they will partly vanish in the near future.
