I own a TSN 823 with which I am very pleased! I want to add a zoom eyepiece to it. Would the Kowa TE9Z be compatible with this scope, and if not what would be please? Thanks Stuart

Hello Stuart,

The zoom designed specifically to fit the 820 series is TSE-27C.

The TE9Z is designed for the 600/660 series scopes.

You can get an adapter which fits 600/660 series eyepieces onto 820 scopes, it's the TSN - EC1A.

Best,
Jerry

Many thanks indeed! When using the TE9Z with the EC1A adapter on the TSN823, would the magnification offered by the eyepiece be the same?

Hi,

the focal length of the 823 body is 450mm as compared to the 420mm of the 660 series. So the magnification would be a bit higher - 21-64x.

Are any eyepieces still available that fit the 823 and 824's? I'm happy with the scope but wonder if a more modern advanced eyepiece would be a way of upgrading the scope?

Would prefer a zoom, but fixed, if 30x or larger, would be fine I guess.

Hi,

as mentioned above the adapter type TSN - EC1A is still available as are the EPs for the small body series (25x LER, 30x wide and 20-60x zoom). On the 820 series bodies those would give very slightly higher mags.
If any of those would make an upgrade for you depends on what EP you currently use. I have to admit that I haven't yet seen an 820 series scope in real life, let alone looked through one.
