Oh yes. I couldn't rememer which month it was that you were going, thought it was December and was too tired to check last night! Sorry to raise your hopes re the carmine bee-eaters. However you will hopefully see the White-fronted and the Little Bee-eater. Another place they can sometimes be seen is from the deck at the Lower Sabie visitors centre - dont concentrate entirely on the river and waterbirds, check out the vegetation around the deck! I also didn't pick up the fact that you only arrive in the country on the Saturday and I fully agree with Alan (thank goodness he was more alert!) regarding getting to Lower Sabie. You will find that mileage tells you very little in terms of how far you can travel. It is what you see, or what is crossing the road in front of you that willdictate this. ( I have been held up for 50 mins whilst upward of 2 000 buffalo crossed the road in front of me, and once was kept an extra 40 mins on a small narrow dirt road because a large bull elephant regarded it as his personal grazing pathway!) So basically, every journey will take you twice as long as you think it will unless you ignore the sightings. Birds too will slow you down a lot . . . feeding parties, amazing sightings (like the time we came across a Bateleur hanging upside down in a tree) and identification. Regarding Nhlanganzwani dam, I don't know how long it has been empty, but the same was done to Silolwrni and it was full again the following year so you may be lucky if you do get there. The Oliphants road is the H1-4 between Satara and Olifants-Letaba. 'If you do manage to see a honey badger I will be soooo jealous' says Allan. Well you will have to contend with two extremely jealous forumites! Tell your wife snap! Must be something to do with our star-signs - yet we love travel . . . .
