We did try but no sign of any today! I've only seen 1 all winter they seem to be very scarce

8 Buzzards - passage?

They were all circling on a thermal at the back of the reserve in the morning, however 5 were still present this evening so maybe some passage but I think most were local birds taking advantage of the warmer weather to find thermals.

Nice to meet you & your pals at the Mere today Jonny, what a beautifully sunny afternoon it was too.

Can't add much/anything to Jonny's sightings, although I did get a brief look at a Cetti's as it flew in front of a hide.

I've got quite a few snaps to process yet, but I'll just add one of an obliging Kestrel & also of a Curlew that flew by quite a way up overhead - I don't recall photoing a curlew whilst at the Mere before.

Cheers

Cliff

Proving that am missing alot on Marton Mere and within 5 minutes from my house... oh well daughter takes priority... for now hahahahaha.

Where abouts you spot the Woodcock Jonny as would be ANOTHER lifer for me.

On Mythop (flood) on way home from work showed around 50 Widgeon and at least 20 Teal, along with 3 Shelducks, Buzzard and 3 Lapwings.

Neil,

I will PM you about Woodcock given you have never seen one. For those who have seen them before waiting until they leave the daytime roosts at dusk should be sufficient.

Sightings of note from a couple of hours at Stanley Park this morning were 2 x GS Woodpeckers(1 x male that was doing plenty of drumming & 1 x female), 1 x Treecreeper, 3 x Wren & 4 x Long-tailed tit. Plenty of Blue & Great tits but once again (see post from a couple of weeks ago)not a Coal tit to be seen :-C.

A couple of dodgy record shots from today attached, along with another Kestrel photo from Marton Mere taken 2 days ago.

First visit to Hesketh today - was quite brief with kids in tow - but saw Hen Harrier, Merlin, Kestrel, Buzzard but no owls. On the way back had some good views of Tufties at Sands Lake and three Corn Buntings jangling away on the road over Plex Moss. Great to get some good weather for a change!

Nice photos Pitvar :t:. I photo'd some Corn Buntings today but will keep the shots to myself after seeing your great shot!

I was visiting a few customers Over Wyre today so couldn't resist a quick stop off at a couple of likely spots.

Bradshaw Lane feeding station produced sightings of 1 x kestrel, 1 x Shelduck, 2 x RL Partridge, 1 x yellowhammer, 6+ corn Buntings, 2 x Tree Sparrows (also 2 x Brown Hare).

Lots of Curlew in the fields @ Backsands Lane, prob 100+. Fluke Hall Lane produced sightings of 1 x Little Egret, 1 x Kestrel, 50+ Redshank, 20+ Curlew & hundreds of Crows, one of which (or is my imagination running away with me-see photo) seemed to fly off with a long since deceased bird corpse, maybe a Redshank, in it's beak(my missus reckons it's just a bit of straw or a twig though |:$| ).

a few record shots snapped out of the car window attached

Cheers
