Well done getting the GW Egret sighting/photo kwyll :t: . I was there yesterday & the GWE was still about but I missed out on it, although still plenty to see from the Allen/Morecambe hides with 20+ Little Egrets, Spotted Redshank, Greenshank & later at the main reserve amongst others 2 x Bearded Tits, 2 x Marsh Tits & Chiffchaff - Oh & quite a few Red Deer.

Cheers

Cliff

There was a little egret on Fleetwood marsh for a short while this morning. Don't know how often they visit but it was the first time that I've seen one there. Excuse the poor picture, it wasn't very good light today...honest :)

In search of the Red Throated Diver and Common Sooter at Rishton Reservoir this afternoon we saw a Scaup. No sign of the aforementioned but that may be because I don't know the area to well.

Cliff - love the Bearded Tit photo, one day I will catch up with them having never seen them before.

Martyn - don't worry about the photo, looks great to me. I always find Little Egret hard to photograph

Derek

Spent my lunchbreak at Marton Mere again today - sightings included a pal of kwyll's - a chap called Alan - nice to meet you Alan if you're looking in :t:.

Hi Cliff,

Nice to have met you too.

Great images of the Bearded tits - I was at Leighton Moss last Friday with a couple of mates and only managed to see them fly past a few times - blurry sightings at best. I did see the Great White Egret though,

Best wishes,

Alan

Derek when you thinking of heading to Brockhole again? I may tag along, so you can show me the ropes

Thanks Kwyll, as my son plays rugby saturday and sunday mornings seem to be booked up so to get his life list up (as well as mine) I look out for some of the more interesting local sightings. We'd always planned to pay a visit to Inner Marsh Farm and with the Dowitcher being there we brought the visit forward. Would recomend a visit as it's a great place even though there is currently only one hide.

Neil - Not sure when I'm next down at Brockholes, seem to head down on the spur of the moment in the evenings at the moment. If you want a good look around the place the best time is at the weekend when I can get down in the afternoons (see above!). I'll send you a PM when I plan to go probably in the next week or two depending whats around elsewhere.

All good mate just let me know

Slipped over the border today to catch up with the Long Billed Dowitchers at Inner Marsh Farm ( I dipped on the LBD at Marshside). A brilliant hour and a half with excellent views of the LBDs and a supporting cast of Ringtail Hen Harrier, Hobby, Peregrine 2 Water Rails, Greenshanks, Redshank, Dunlin, Black Tailed Gods, Ruff, Golden Plover, Little Egrets, Snipe, Buzzards and Lapwings, a Garganey was also reported but I couldn't spot it. Well worth a trip over the border.

As most know, I'm new at this m'larkey... where's Inner Marsh Farm ???

Great forum, the pics are great (even when they're rubbish, if you know what I mean) and the info very useful. Keep a watching brief.
Cheers

Inner Marsh is a RSPB reserve near Neston on the Wirral. Further details can be found here.

It isn't the easiest reserve to find though, it took me and my dad aa few attempts yesterday and we've been once before.

I'd downloaded the Tomtom POI file from RSPB and the reserve wasn't in it!

If you head for Burton Village and then find Station Road a small lane that turns off the main road through the village, on the drive down Station Road is a sign for the reserve on the left.

I'm out and about tomorrow working so hoping to get in again if time permits. The reserve is usually closed on a Tuesday but with the Dowitchers showing it will be open.

Derek

The reserve is not publicised because of I believe due to planning permission with regard to volume of traffic in the village. There is only limited parking and it is quite definetley RSPB members only.

I'm sure this will change when the new entrance to the reserve is completed.
I will say none of the wardens at the site asked for my membership card or payment for entrance when I visited.

Derek

I have been numerous times over the last few years and have never been asked for my membership card but i was today.

The hordes of birders there today would indicate that it is known by a lot more people than you think.

cheers

Just posted on the ID thread to be sure but I believe I saw TWO Great White Egrets together at Leighton Moss this afternoon about 4.45pm - just after everyone else had left the Grisedale hide - I was really chuffed to see the first but seeing two was ace - anyone confirm from the attached?

Not bad for a flying 40 minute visit - also saw two red deer hinds, heard Beardeds and saw plenty of Teal, Shovelers and Red Shank. Cheers, Pitvar
