Any info about this Savi's warbler at Leighton Moss? How far is it from the centre? A two mile walk I gather.

And with no guarantee of it showing!

Any more info appreciated.

Is it still there and does anyone have a grid ref? Might be able to go early on Saturday.

Thanks

Davo

This Savi's is a bit of no-no for me.....if still present of course. How can you get to see it if it shows early morning yet you have to wait for the centre to open for access and directions?

Never mind getting to leighton moss itself.

Sorry to moan, just frustrated!

Probably quite a long shot but has anyone got any ideas where I could do some wildlife related work experience around lancashire, preferably in the fylde and even more preferably if someone on here could take me on. I tried emailing robin horner from the rspb but haven't had an response so just thought I'd ask you guys to see if you have any ideas.

Thanks Jonny

Depends what you mean by 'work experience', if you are looking for a two week placement or odd day here and there.... and what you mean by 'wildlife'.
You could try all the Local Authorities (Blackpool/Fylde/Wyre/Preston/LCC etc) in the area who have various departments of one sort or another, local Natural England offices and Environment Agency (but Preston based and work could be anywhere)... RSPB are always looking for volunteers... Newton Marsh Godwit watch... but not sure that would qualify as 'work experience'... RSPB Discovery Centre?

I have analysed the (admittedly poor quality) recording I took of the reported Savi's Warbler and I am not convinced it is not a Grasshopper Warbler.

I am not saying the Savi's Warbler is not there; merely saying that the bird singing and reported to be a Savi's by all present whilst I was there on Wednesday is likely not to be one.

FORGOT TO MENTION - travelling through tomorrow and Thursday, so any pointers today would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gordon.

I haven't been down to Sizergh for a few weeks, so can't say if they are still around or not. What I can say though, is that IF they are around, you will need to be there early. 7.00-8.30 was a good time, but could well be earlier now. Once the castle visitors start arriving though, forget it.

Probably the best place to try is bottom left corner of the car park, under the hornbeams. Try parking near the shop/restaurant, and viewing across the car park from there.

Good luck.

Steve.
