Decided to brave the elements up at white coppice, being of scottish half parentage it takes three weeks of sunshine just to get white:king: i had a long list of desired sightings but happy with one reacquaintance and one lifer, Spotted Flycatcher, nearly a year since i have seen one and the elusive Cuckoo.
Plus Willow Warblers everywhere and for good measure on the train journey to preston i had a Sprawk in a tree quite unruffled by our passing and a Barn Owl not quite so unperturbed:eek!: and a Small Copper for good measure

Kwyll, I've spent 2 days down at Brockholes trying to add the little blighter to my warbler list of photos, have seen it but it never seems to hang still long enough to catch it. Envious you even got that shot. Not a bad digiscoped shot of the Wood Sandpiper either, must get down to see it as missed it when it was reported the other week.

Frank,

some great shots. I was thinking about heading over there tomorrow, you have now made my mind up. I need both the Cuckoo (though I've heard plenty) and the Spotted Flycatcher. If you read this before mid morning sunday any information on their whereabouts would be greatfully recieved.

Flycatcher was on the wooded walk just after the cricket ground towards Brinscall (turn left) Cuckoo was quite mobile but twice landed in the dead tree up the stream past the weir, good luck

Incidentally, i am sure there were two as one landed in the tree and the other appeared to continue over to the bushes in the distance, while i am on i would like to throw out a few questions myself, anyone have any tips on where to see a Pied Flycatcher nearbye, one had appeared at White Coppice last year i believe, but the nearest i can see is a place called Aughton Wood near Lancaster. Never been so some info on that would be appreciated and the same goes for Redstart the only problem being i don't drive so within reach of public transport and a reasonable bike riding distance:t:

Anglezarke - White Coppice - Brinscal Woods

Walked the above route with the hope of meeting up with some of Franks sightings.
'Willow Warbler everywhere' was an understatement! I'm sure I missed out on several species due to the amount calling. Anyway cought up with the Cuckoo at the cricket ground though no photo, also heard more throughout the walk. Was told there are Sptted Flycatcher by the watermans cottage but none today. Also Wood Warbler, Redstart and Pied in the area but again not seen by me. I did manage 2 Raven, Buzzard, Kestrel, Oystercatcher, Treecreeper, Tree Creeper, Green Woodpecker, Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Reed Bunting, Chiffchaff, Grey Wagtail and a few more of the usual suspects oh and did I mention Willow Warbler! A place I would recomend to everyone and will be heading back soon in the near future.

Found some Ringed Plovers breeding on local farmland the other day. Strange thing was it was nowhere near any water! I mean there were patches of stones here and there but we're not talking the shingle islands of Martin Mere.

Has anyone else ever witnessed Ringed Plovers getting themselves confused with Lapwings? ;)

Plenty of Peregrine action in yesterday's sunshine, with appearances from a third Peregrine, and a Sparrowhawk. A few photos below:

For anyone who doesn't know there is a f/imm Common Rosefinch at Lytham St Annes Nature Reserve in the trees behind the old wardens hut. I haven't been there since lunchtime but I believe it is elusive so patience might be required.

I cant believe I have lived in Blackpool my whole life and NEVER visited the LNR on the Dunes... I hit myself with disgust.

If this weather picks up I may head there this weekend. Guessing its the opposite side of the main dunes, next to Pontins?

What are the regular sightings there?

White Tailed Lapwing at Seaforth today for anyone who hasn't heard. Is viewable occasionally from the fence at crosby but not very good views.

Typically I'm not going to be able to get to see it for a few weeks as going away on saturday :-C

Not a lot out of the ordinary in the summer, Stonechats usually breed, better for butterflies and dragonflies. It gets Jack Snipe in winter.

Best in spring and autumn. Not that well covered since Maurice Jones wasn't replaced as warden. He found two Subalpine Warblers and a Barred Warbler there and other stuff I have forgotten. I have found Hoopoe and now Rosefinch there.

To be honest Ed Stirling has proved that any isolated area of trees or bushes near the coast between Fairhaven and Fleetwood will turn stuff up if you persevere.

Elsewhere on BF the poor spring has been lamented. It isn't looking too shabby in the Lancs and North Merseyside recording area now is it. County vagrants (<10 records) off the top of my head - WT Plover, Wilson's Phal, Spotted Sand, Woodchat Shrike and Rosefinch and still time for more.
