Lark Sparrow in Southern California (1 Viewer)

This photo was taken in December last year somewhere in Southern California. I believe it was identified as a Lark Bunting by the group leader. This species appears to be uncommon in California according Sibley, and was wondering whether this was misidentified. Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you.
