Hi all, I did a little bit of birding in Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, Las Vegas on the 31st of January and have quite a few birds that I'm stuck on - I've whittled this list down from about 30 though so I'm very proud of myself :ROFLMAO:

First up - raptors:

3) I feel this one should be easy but I think I'm trying to turn it into something it's not so that it'll be a lifer

4) I've barely gotten to grips with UK gulls so this was never going to go well - Ring-billed or California?

5) I got as far as chunky finchlike bill and then got stuck

6) Bewick's wren perhaps?

Thank you!

1. Possibly red-tailed hawk and very possibly not.
2. Red-shouldered hawk. Chest pattern plus thick dark tail-bars.
3. Might be northern harrier.
5. Some towhee? Dunno - can't see enough.
6. Looks a bit more like Bewick's wren than house wren.
7. Some sparrow.
8. Red-winged blackbird.

Ed. I switched 2 & 3 - thank you, Lou 👍🏻

2. Northern Harrier (maybe Butty switched 2 and 3)
3. not sure on this
4. surprisingly hard to tell with bills blurred, but they look like Ring-billed Gulls to me (although California Gulls are common there).
5. Abert's Towhee
6. not sure, probably Bewick's Wren
7. juvenile White-crowned Sparrow
8. Red-winged Blackbird
