Last Swift of the year ... (1 Viewer)

Stonefaction

Stuck in Dundee.....
Scotland
A group of c15-20 over Kilminning, near Crail today moving westwards, as if they had just come in off the sea (which they may well have). Also 1 bird an hour before, and a smaller group of maybe 5 or so a short while later. Steady movement of hirundines (including a few Sand Martins still) throughout today too.

2 yesterday at Irvine but, if they have any sense they will leave NOW! The rain has started again; we have redpolls and siskins on our feeders; it's February here.

A couple yesterday, Friday 28th. I suspect the birds I see over my local patch are migrating birds as I rarely see a Swift during the breeding season.

Last Swift fledged from one of our nestboxes on the house yesterday, 31st August (I think). No sign of any today. That makes 3 successful nests this year, up from 1 nest last year. I think the first fledgling from the first nest left on 21st July, so quite a prolonged fledging period - I didn't even realise the 3rd nestbox was occupied until a week or so into August. No cameras unfortunately, so hard to know what's going on inside the boxes.
