Regarding Andy's comment. Is it possible for a moderator to remove part of a thread to another thread?
I'm thinking all the useful "Xolmiini" stuff could be shifted to the Xolmiini thread, or perhaps both placed in the Tyrannides thread.

Can we make that happen?
Yes it is, and she did!
Thanks Delia

Got the lynx book now. They seem pretty certain.

In the book they might be, but it seems they may need to reevaluate the conclusion. It's not based on Oliveros et al and not part of their supermatrix.

Laurent,

Turns out that Carpospiza isn't actually included in their supermatrix in Appendix 2. But it is treated in their main text as we've discussed. Jon has also just confirmed to me that the reference to Oliveros et al. is in error. He's checking with his co-authors regarding all of this. I'll provide follow up when I hear back from him.

One more split - this is one I've seen all 3

Apr 20 Post proposed splits of Malayan Black-capped Babbler Pellorneum nigrocapitatum and Bornean Black-capped Babbler P. capistratoides from Javan Black-capped (Rufous-browed) Babbler P. capistratum. English names under discussion.
nigrocapitatum has been split from capistratum but placed in Trichastoma instead of Pellorneum. Is it the same for capistratoides ?

So this follows the recent North American decisions, with the exception of lumping Andean Duck with Ruddy Duck (?)

June 22 Move Pale Rockfinch from Passeridae to Motacillidae.

June 27 Restore Pale Rockfinch to Passeridae pending further clarification of its phylogenetic status.

Pale Rockfinch was a member of Motacilidae for fives days. Not very consistent.

It's transparent. The updates don't become "official" until the new version of the checklist is published. It's nice to be able to see the thought processes behind the decisions.
I wonder whether IOC would consider adopting a similar system to SACC where a proposal is formally tabled, and individual committee members respond with their views in public?
I appreciate it might add to what is probably an already high workload, but I find it very interesting to see the back-and-forth that leads to a decision being adopted.
