I am spending a few days in August in Leipzig for my son's wedding. I may be able to get a half a day/day free to do some birding and was wondering if anyone could suggest possible sites. It would need to be fairly close to Leipzig and accessible by public transport.

Thanks,

Oooh, that would be bad luck- had so much work on my desk and the few info I got also were coming slow...I also sent him a private message, but anybody by any chance know his mobile number?

I thought I'd bring this thread back to the top in case anyone has any ideas.

Hi Robinm

I am living in Leipzig. When you come next time to this city I could take you to some nice locations.
I subscribed very recently to this forum, that´s why I missed your question.

Good birding

Hi Edwin,

Thanks very much for your offer. My son (who has recently married a girl from the Erzgebirge) will be moving to Leipzig next year. I expect we will be visiting the area many times in the next few years and I hope I'll be able to take up your kind offer.

Cheers,

Hi Robin,
I´ll attach the maps here as there seems to be a problem with my mail account -I can not send anything out, it seems.

the one labeled Gaulis shows the wood (also named Gaulis on the map) which is supposed to have a heron colony, and the artificial lake which were said to be interesting.

The other map just gives an overview over the southern region of Leipzig just to show you where the site is in relation to the city.

hope these help,

Jörn

sorry i just checked it, but Gaulis on the map seems to be the buildings where the wood with the colony is supposed to be nearby.
