The air was full of insects today, not least as I walked passed the church grounds. I'm not suggesting that my shots of them are good ones, but I liked the effect. Then I noticed the fungi and liked the patterns.

I think the criterea for little things is met.|:d|

Xcellent shot of the butterfly Matt.

I love the flying insects Brian, the image reminds me of a fairytale book I once owned, where the fairies are were only visible to the key holder of a secret garden.
Oo i've gawn all goosey! |:$|

Now it is strange that you say that pie because fairies are what I thought of when I looked at the photo and almost said so in my initial post. It reminded me of the fake photo of a fairy in a garden taken many years ago. I think you will know the one I mean.

My imagination in in overdrive at present as I'm reading the Narnia novels. I've just finished number two, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Great stuff. Best not mention it to anyone though. lol I'm pleased to say that Aslan sorted out that wicked witch good and proper. I'm off to town to buy the next two novels tomorrow. The new Collins hardback versions are very good if anyone is interested. Magic:t:

Aww Brian I was so sad when the fairy pictures were reported as fake. Those black & white images were magical. I remember watching the documentary and thinking how I wished the family had kept their secret.
I'm just waiting for some thoughtless person to come along and say FC is a myth! |:(|

I have seen the TV version of the L, W & W Brian, it is a fantastic story, I might be tempted to read it one day.
Enjoy the books.

Wow! that does look sharp Brian. What a nice thing to have, I could do with something like that for my art work (seriously) I wonder if Bristol Zoo have Porcupines? Time to call in a favour from Bill ;)

Lovely butterfly, Matt.
Those dancing insects do look like fairies, Brian.
Pretty berries pic, Kits.
Porcupines back into creatures that annoy them don't they? I guess their quills regrow, Brian?

Now that's a good point (if you will excuse the pun) Val. The quill has a covering of Keratin which is the substance that makes birds feathers and I believe they shed the quills in a similar way as birds would shed a feather and thus regrow them. I will have to read up on this.:h?:

Below is a little thing I picked up off the pavement today. I liked the colours.

Was the Southern Hawker taken in your garden Kits? I'm just interested because I have learnt recently that they are commonly seen in gardens.

I have added a couple of feathers found on the N E coast recently. I put them on the wider forum for I D but no one has obliged as yet. Any ideas? I wondered if first was from a Tern species and the latter I am sure is from a wader species.

I have got myself some very interesting raptor feathers which I shall put up at a later date.

Brian - the Southern Hawker was in the Botanical Gardens in Oxford.

Thanks for that Kits. A rather large garden no doubt, but a garden none the less.|=)|

I think the Southern Hawker is one of the Dragonflies which has increased it's range considerably in recent years. I have certainly seen a few this year and I know 2 or 3 people who have them in their garden. A friend of mine managed to get a photo of an adult emerging near her pond.

I like the second pic especially Pie. I don't know the names of many fungi I'm afraid. As you know, Peter is the man for that. Bet your right though.

I must be shaking me feathers soon and getting some more on here.
