One of the great things about Lesvos is that its never the same for two different groups of people, or from week to week, or from year to year. It took me years to relax about missing all the goodies you hear about during your stay. I known now to just get on with my own own birding and hope I see plenty for myself - and I usually do! Birding is as much about luck as it is about the skill needed when luck pops up in front of you! And lets be honest, to have a great stay on Lesvos you don't need that much luck! Luck on Lesvos isn't so much the icing on the cake, but more lighting the candle! Sandra - for future years, go to Metochi Lake anytime and you can see crakes. Evening can be difficult with viewing the reeds with the setting sun, but I've popped in at all times of day and seen crakes and Little Bitterns. Early mornings are the best, but then you have to put up with every man, dog and sheep around. I often pop in between 9 and 10 once its calmed down and see stuff easy enough. Some of the larger groups were a problem. As a group leader I'm aware what impact a group has on others. Some groups are just impossible to keep quiet (then I keep them away form others!), but I would have to have to look after a coach load of birders - impossible! But some smaller groups have a habit of creating as much noise as a bus-load. Four Dutch birders at Metochi did for one of my groups one morning despite being asked to keep the noise down. They had the whole track to choose form but they decided to stand right behind us, each lit a cigar and then just shouted to each other. Now I know I'm load but I couldne compete with these guys! Glad you had a good trip Mark. Some great finds in your list, and thanks for my first Broad-billed Sand for Lesvos. I've lost count how many I've dipped on Lesvos, spring and autumn.
