I have been having problems with the link to the cam from the Loch Garten Website and just now there is no video so I Googled a webcam at Loch Garten and lo and behold, there is the video -

http://www.rspb.org.uk/webcams/birdsofprey/lochgartenospreynest.asp

The URL link on the Loch Garten website to the cam is different and appears to no longer work. I also see that the website is not as slick as it should be in that the osprey blog can be accessed two different ways (which is fine) but you get different information surrounding the blog (the blog entries are identical) suggesting two different pages have been set up - how inefficient.

The streaming cam works fine for me. See http://www.rspb.org.uk/webcams/birdsofprey/lochgartenvideo.asp

I tried this when I first opened the thread about a minute ago and no go - white screen with the little red cross in the top left hand corner. But now it's ok - black screen at first for a couple of seconds and then the live stream - great - and I have got the annoying buzz that everyone seems to have so I must be running ok now. Thank you Tiger.

Thanks Alison,

I have been too busy watching the cam to read posts on here along with trying to open a Yahoo account (can anyone tell me how? PM please) and never noticed there was a third egg in the nest.

I stayed up late last night as well as I thought she was going to lay then as she was pacing about moving things but I couldn't keep awake.

Hi Everybody,

Is anyone watching EJ she seems to have just been attacked by another Osprey who did look like Odin but not very friendly at all. EJ left the nest and took to the air to fight off the intruder.

I don't know about her heart rate going up mine is, attack still nove over.

Hi Everybody,

It has been a stressful time at Loch Garten. An unringed intruder(s) has constantly been attacking EJ and yesterday it actually landed on the nest and there was a real scrap going on but somehow the eggs survived. There is a very short clip of the action on UTube and the Loch Garten blog has been updated.

Hi Everyone,

Just writing to let you know the diary was updated on Wednesday.

http://blogs.rspb.org.uk/lochgartenospreys/default.aspx

I have been too busy to post on here, watching EJ sitting on the nest for 2 days taking all the bad weather that was thrown at her. During the gales I just don't know how she stayed put and there has been an awful lot of rain and even hail.

Last night well 12.40 am this morning I saw both EJ and Odin sleeping on the nest and wish I could remember how to do a screen grab.

I think Odin is the right replacement for Henry, sorry don't know how else to put that. He brings in fish regularly and when EJ has eaten and returned to the nest he has to be persuaded to get off it. He does like brooding the eggs and re-arranging the furniture and when he has gone EJ re-arranges it herself.

Marge's nest at Loch Lowes seems more cosy with all the trees round it EJ seems to be sat right out in the open.

Just as I was typing this the Loch Garten diary has been updated again.

Just got back from our holiday in Aviemore and popped into see EJ and Odin a few times. We were told that the big day for hatching should be 23rd so keep those eyes peeled a couple of days either side. The wind was not as bad as it was forecast around the area although I think EJ must be a hardy lady to put up with all the wet weather....it rained almost everyday and twice there was hailstones.

I log on every morning, Margaret, to all three osprey nest sites:
Loch Garten
Loch of the Lowes
Bassenthwaite

It is sooo exciting to see the story unfold day by day, isn't it!

Can I also flag up our Red Kite nest at the Highland Cattle Centre , near Whittonstall? Ziggy and Jammy Dodger have got a nest in a tree, which gives a clear line of vision from the Tearoom. I had excellent views of Ziggy sitting on the nest. I have posted this elsewhere, but posting it here again....................could be on one of your excursion routes.

Hi Everybody,

Just to let you know I think Odin is a wonderful replacement for Henry, he is so attentive, for a first time father, sorry don't know how else to put that. Even when he doesn't bring a fish he loves sitting on the eggs and EJ has to politely move him off, often sitting down beside him and gently pushing him off the nest. Once in the early days she biffed him up the behind (trying to be polite).

You can tell them apart easily Odin has a lot whiter front and legs and has no leg rings at all. He may be a Scandinavian bird or he may be a Scottish one newly returned. Also some of the intruders that have tried to take over may even be some of EJ's young on their first trips back and naturally headed home before realising they have to find their own territories and build a nest.

They all hae to grow up an awful lot quicker than humans, fancy finding your way to Africa when you are only a few month's old? and why come back and leave all that glorious sun for wet and windy UK, well it is here today.

Fantastic. Well done RSPB Loch Garten :) The biggest thank you goes to EJ and her new man Odin. (Chuffed I seen him first LOL). Hope the weather stays kind to them for a few days to get them chicks off to a good start.

Well Ann have a virtual cigar on me. Your old girl has done it again. I love this time of year.

<<<<<<<<<<< standing back awaiting for this thread to go into melt down LOL.

Hi Ann,

Thank you it may be dull here but the sun is shining up there and that is what matters. Odin was on eggs at 6 am when chick hatched and went for EJ. I of course was asleep in my pit.

For pictures of the happy couple and an intruder around believe it or not (this morning) go to here and look at the bottom of the page.

No cigar thanks but I am smoking like a chimney as always and drinking coffee, they keep me going.

Hi Folks,

The official confirmed time of hatching is 5.50 am and I haven't yet seen the chick EJ barely lifts up to turn the other eggs and check on chick. I am sure there is still an intruder about as she keeps looking skywards and making distress calls.

It also sounds fairly windy up there and the RAF are just doing a fly past as I write this.
