That's what I was looking at, don't think you can just drop in an set up your camera etc. Just want to go somewhere with a good chance of an Osprey photo

Yeah i realize that now, The only time i went through the front entrance so to speak you basically could drop in and set up your camera for the same charge as just visiting the fish farm, Things have changed allot on the Rothie estate in the last few years one of the places we used to stay with in a group is now the Speyside wildlife offices! Just found there leaflet on the net, £95 for Ospreys or £30 all day for general wildlife. They don't mention Evening viewing/photography might be worth an enquiry

Rothiemurchus Fish Farm now charge £95 per photography session. 'Ordinary mortals' not allowed on after 5.00pm to watch the ospreys coming in to fish. This is how I interpreted their leaflet.

That is a shame - used to go regularly of an evening to watch the evening fish run. Have also spent a fair amount in their farm shop and other outlets over the years but if they're going to be that 'snotty' about ordinary mortals visiting in the evening, I'll think twice about patronising them again. Perhaps they ought to remember where a chunk of their income comes from...

I went there 2 years ago and it was £50 then last year it went up to £75 when springwatch let the cat out of the bag and now it's £95. It's starting to get extortionate, was thinking of going up but think i'll go to the farnes instead.

All I want is the chance to get a good photo of an Osprey fishing, surely it's possible without having to pay £95, I don't mind paying if the money goes back into the conservation of Ospreys but it seems to be a very commercial organisation.

My gardener was on Loch Awe last week-end. No ospreys there, but he said they saw one fishing at a local harbour.............. he comes tomorrow, so I'll ask him. Would this be a possible location for you?

The chicks do not have names just now. We usually call the C1, C2 and C3.

The same landowner who charges extortionate car parking fees at Loch an Eilean, and currently has a huge planning application for hundreds of houses to be built on wild land near Coylumbridge. What a surprise!!

There are plenty of places to watch Ospreys fish and to park in the HIghlands without being ripped off, especially as most of this estate's facilities were funded by the taxpayer in the first place.

I was on holiday near Aviemore last week and had a wonderful time, visiting both Loch Garten and the fish farm at Rothiemurchus.

Although the fish farm's opening hours last week were 9-5, from 1 June it is 9am-9pm for fishermen and the public, I was told. I had no difficulty getting in. There is a small charge, but if you are going to visit more than once, you can buy a weekly "Rothiemurchus Explorer" card from the Visitor Centre for only £1.50 per person, and that gives you free entry to the fish farm and free parking at Loch an Eilein and other perks, which is very reasonable.

The £95 photography package is held from 5am-9.30am before the fishermen and public come in. They go in special hides which are locked during the day, and get advised by walkie talkie when there is an osprey approaching! The public hide is available during the day for anyone to go in.

They have also made a new fishing loch specifically for the osprey, where there will be no fishermen, keeping the ospreys away from the fishermen, and vice versa. It will be open during the day in the next week or so.
