Hi Anne! Yes, it was lightning last year. We put a new camera and modem in (and grounded it better this time), so we should hopefully make it through a whole season!!

Is there something wrong with the camera as I cannot get a connection..or do we think that Marge ha became a mum and they are keeping it to themselves for the time being.

Well, nothing happening yet - Lady is sitting on the edge of the nest, so Tuesday's deadline has gone without any egg being laid.

We'll just have to watch and wait................... hope you can get a connection soon, Margaret.

I've been watching Lady for a good half hour, and she looked really uncomfortable, as if ready to lay. Lo and behold - the first egg. I didn't get an exact timing, roughly 13:25hrs UK time. What a bird!

Peter ferns has confirmed tonight that after being involved with loch of the lowes for 17 years he resigned at the end of march. A sad loss for the loch. This means there are no members of staff left from last year. Should alarm bells be ringing somewhere? Anyway Its done now so lets look forward to another egg or two and healthy chicks later on this week. Shame the web cam isn't working tonight and that the night time protection team don't know how to work the camera but at least they are there watching the precious egg.

That is sad news indeed Ann. It appears problems run deep if they can't carry quality staff along with them.

Tell me, is Anna foreign or something .... "Other Wildlife at Lock of the Lowes" she wrote. Pretty poor if they can't get the name of their own site correct.

The same thing happened yesterday morning we tried and tried from about 6am they dont seem to want to put the camera on for early public viewing.
Yet at Loch Garten there is EJ for all to see incubating her 1st egg as well.

i think she's English. Does that count as foreign? Lol. Must be hard for her if the staff aren't getting support from further up the line. It was the loch of the lowes (rhymes with toes) that got me on the tellY news when marge arrived back from migration. Shouted at the tellY Its loch of the lowes (rhymes with cows)!! Wasn't Anna on that occasion it was Jonathan. When you work somewhere for 4 months you should know what Its called.

Back to osprey business. Well done Ej and Odin. Congrats to LG on the first osprey egg of the 2011 season. Oor marge had to steal the limelight though. What a drama queen she is.

LOL Ann... I hear the locals pronounce it both ways here, so I don't really think there's a right and wrong way. I use the "cows" sound too.

Camera's running again now.

I've been watching a lonely egg for at least 20 minutes, no sign of either parent. Anyone know roughly how long an egg can be left before it gets too cold and becomes non-viable (if that is the term?). I realise ambient temperature , rain etc would have a big effect, but I was getting worried. More risk of predator attack too unless a parent bird is perched nearby.

Phew, as I type this, Lady has come back but there has been very little seen of the Laird today. Has Lady eaten, does anyone know? I wondered if she felt she had to go fishing for herself.

I must say these nest-cams are compelling viewing (like many of us I am watching Loch Garten too) - it is very interesting to watch the behaviour of the ospreys.

My questions about the length of time an egg can be left have been answered from reading another forum/blog at http://wildlifevillage.co.uk. Looks like that is where all the LOTL bloggers are now the SWT blog won't accept comments.

It also seems the bird I saw return to the nest may have been the male (the Laird) so maybe he is not so neglectful of his familial duties after all!
