This is how it happened, chick 2 moved to the back of the nest, with fish in talon - Lady moved along side and got a hold of fish with her beak, but couldn't hold it. She then stepped forward and got her foot on it and took it away from chick 1. Chick 2 went crazy and moved towards Mum, who let chick 2 take it. Chick 1 then made an attempt to move towards chick 2 for a snatch back, but Mum put herself between chick 2 and chick1. Chick 1 conceded and backed off.

and the best of it is i believe that was all meant. She.s so wise and extremely clever. She.s awesome.

Oh it was Ann. It was like done with military precision. She just bided her time and then moved in. Chick 2 is being difficult now. Wont let Mum have any. I dont think she'd have as much difficulty with this one though. Watch her now, see how she handles this

I noticed her doing a funny headshake this afternoon and it would fit with looking like a sneeze but thought nothing of it. Anyway glad both chicks got fed I am sure Madge will look after herself in morning if dad does not bring more. Thanks for description Shielagh amazing watch for nearly 2 hours and take your eyes away for a minute and miss the action :) Anyway to dark now its owl time.

...and the chick is STILL eating. Just about ready to finish off the fish. Mom kept edging up as if to try for a snack but no dice, chick mantling over the meal. Still a lot of vocalizing going on, very strange sounds too. I think mom best go fishing for her own breakfast in the morning. The chicks are stuffed, they will probably sleep in anyway.
I'm off to book club and that chick better be done with the fish by the time I get back. Poor mom, self-sacrificing as always, sitting there hungry (I think) and watching that huge fish disappear in very slow motion!

Wait a minute, the fish is growing? Looks like there's more there than I saw a minute ago. Perhaps it was tucked underneath the chick, looked like she just had a few shreds left but now it looks like the back half of a regular-sized fish she has there. I give up, must leave for a few hours.

Dad brought a nice-sized fish in about 10 minutes ago and mom was alone on the nest so she got it! She could hear the chicks shrieking from somewhere nearby and she took off with the fish, presumably to eat it in peace somewhere. By the way, I saw mom shake her head a few times, nothing major. She also stumbled in the nest but recovered just fine, I think she just caught her talon on a twig.

Empty nest just now will look in later. Glad to hear they all have been fed, it is what usually hapens but we do like to dramatise our 'soaps' but must admit I thought last night the first chick had learned that the meals are not coming in as frequently so I am keeping the lot....

Edit one has returned while posting.

Fish in but not large and I cannot tell which chick got it. Think it was dad brought it in but only stayed a short time. Other chick calling for one as well.

Edit looking at view now think it is the darker chick same as last night.

apparently early this morning there were quite a few small birds on the nest. You think that could have been long tailed tits? I never seen them but they fly in groups don't they.

Yes they do Ann, they go about in gangs. Was only talking to my sister today about them. When we had bad weather at the beginning of the year, it was first time I had them in my garden. There was six of them. They kept coming for the fat cake. As soon as the weather changed for the better, they disappeared. They are beautiful little things, with a huge tail. I Love them
