A back view in poor light, with usual photo-quality apologies to be issued for these terrible shots, but would appreciate it if anyone could tell me if this is Short-eared or Long-eared from these? I'm assuming shortie just due to relative rarity, but honestly looking at the in-flight underwing illustrations, I can't tell which the colour and markings are more like.
Over wetland meadows beside Thornham harbour, yesterday.

Thank you both, for the ID and the tips on what to focus on noticing in future!

Funnily enough I was reading the exact same article, just minutes before coming here to ask - except somehow I thought it ended after the first two sections, and didn't scroll far enough down to see there were more pictures and captions per species, including flight photos and mention of the trailing edges! I must do my homework more thoroughly in future, read things to the end, hah!
