Hi, I am staying in Ealing London. There are a number of long tailed black birds little bit smaller than a pigeon that are flying around in small flocks. They are chirruping constantly. I have never seen them before. Any ideas folks?

No I know rooks they weren't as big. Tails long and pointed. I am ex-rspb but have never seen these before. I will try and get photo

Hi Nevyn, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.

Hi Nevyn and a warm welcome from me too. The only thing I can think of is Pied Wagtails, they can flock together in the town in winter and go to roost in a large bush or tree. But they're b/w of course not all black.

I used to live in the area, at Greenford, but left in 1971.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Are they definitely black, or could it be they are just silhouetted/seen in poor light? If they are silhouetted, could they be Ring Necked Parakeets - smaller than pigeons, noisy and have long pointed tails....(but they are bright green), and quite common in (parts of?) London.
