Hello there,
I visited the southern part of Madagascar from 9-23 November this year, together with another birder from Belgium.
We had a great trip and managed to see the 5 Ground-Rollers, 9 species of Coua, 14 species of Vanga, Brown and Subdesert Mesite, ...
Of course we also saw plenty of other wildlife - lemurs, chameleons, frogs, etc etc.
We're working on a full trip report, but in the meantime I already want to give a shout out to our local contact who arranged the entire trip.
His name is Eugene Rakotobe, and he can be contacted via e-mail ([email protected]) or via WhatsApp (+261 34 17 500 39).
He speaks English and French, and was recommended to us by other Belgian birders.
He organised all our logistics - 4x4 transportation, a domestic flight from Antananarivo to Toliara, a boat to Nosy Ve, hotels, food, water, and perhaps most importantly, very knowledgeable local bird guides in all places we visited. The itinerary was agreed up front but was very flexible, and it was never a problem to start very early or to keep lunch breaks short.
In short, we were very happy with his services and I have no problem recommending Eugene if you are looking to travel to Madagascar yourself.
Here's the eBird trip report with some pictures if you want to give it a closer look.
best regards
Wim
