I too have just heard about the fate of Son Bosc from my friend at s'Albufera. Even though it has been on the cards for some time it is very sad news, especially as at least part of the site was once within the Parc boundary! Apart from the more obvious birds, orchids (80% of the known population of one species of orchid grows there), it also has a high diversity of invertebrates, especially moths. I've been helping to survey the moths of the Parc (and the other islands) for the last nine years - with some very interesting discoveries. All this will now disappear for yet another golf course. There are already 20 golf courses on the island of which four 18 hole courses were completed since the end of 2005. See http://mallorcagolfclubs.com for further details, including a huge project being mooted between Valldemosa and Bunyolais of both an 18 and a 9 hole course. I wonder how well used these courses really are but, at the end of the day, I guess golfers spend more money than birders, etc., and it is profit that rules the day. He also mentions the Boquer valley, stating that he has spoken to the proprietor. They are not going to close the valley but are planning to change the entrance so that the path does not pass in front of the house. The path will start in a different place and the route will be a little longer but also much nicer. They don't know when work will commence, probaly "within months or years". Martin
