Thanks for the records, much appreciated. Alpine swifts and Bee-eaters are always great birds to see. I contacted my friend last night but he has been taken to hospital sadly. He has asked his wife to bring in his pager and binoculars! Typical birder. I will get info as soon as possible. Mike

Thank you Mike.

Do you have any info about Cuber ? Is it worth trying for spectacled w ? Have seen subalpine ssp, but not spectacled for some years. Or rock thrush ?

This am, Balearic w still near Santa Ponca. Also osprey and peregrine over. And little egrets which I assume are on the golf course.

The photos posted on the Rare birds Spain page of a Royal Tern in Alcudia seem to have turned out to be a normal Caspian Tern... We are having a really hot summer this year, so it looks like the heat is getting to some people!! B :) One "birder" last spring turned up in just a couple of hours birding more rarities than all those recorded for the last two years in the Balearics. Gems such as Little Swift and Thrush nightingale (lots of..) at the Albufera:t:

Many thanks. Alpine swifts and bee-eaters over Calvia this pm.

Have you got any more details on the Bee-eaters over Calvia? (how many, where exatcly..) They are increasingly rare breeders here and limited to just a few pairs in the north. Any news on more breeding pairs would be great.

Cheers

Steve

All news to me! My birding pal from the UK phoned to ask about the Royal tern but I have heard nothing, I was a bit sceptical though. I was with the rare bird "finder" when he saw the Little swift at s'Albufera. All I saw was a house martin..

Only one report of Spectacled warbler at Cuber and no reports so far of Rock thrush sadly. The Spectacled was past the dam and quarry and turn left along the valley towards Puig de l'Ofre and the birds were on the right a short way along. Good luck and do let us know if you go. Mike

I can't find any reference to the reported Royal tern on "Rare Birds in Spain" or anywhere else. Can anyone give a link or provide a photo?

A couple of White storks have been around Santa Ponça most of the summer and it is always a top spot for migration, you should do well. Salinas will be great for waders returning. Guided tours do not have a good effect on the Flamingos, they are nervous at the best of times.Do post what you see. I don't think I can stand to read about more habitat loss, it makes me weep.

At Salobrar de Campos today - no habitat loss - no different from last year except the gate from Eddie's track onto the pans has been rather smartened up ! But no flamingos.

Little and cattle egret, wood and common sand, little stint, ruff, sp and common redshank, greenshank, lrp and kp, c20 stone curlew. M harrier. Very good numbers of juv stilt, relatively few avocet.

Any news from Martin on access to S'Albufera appreciated.

Thanks Eduardo. Not sure what to make of that. The bill is very distorted in the photos but I still can't see Royal. I don't think it looks like a Caspian either so not too many other options left! It may have been worth posting on Birdforum ID thread and see what people think but I guess only the photographer can do that. Mike

Great views from the tower Steve, we will all be back there soon, it really is a perfect place to go birding and the migrating raptors can be spectacular. Several hundred Common swift through the south coast today. Also a female Montagu's harrier.
