Hi
Just returned from a brief trip to Cabrera - a pretty rough journey on the way back following the storm yesterday but nothing compared to what happened here. There seems to be major damage around the Lluch area with lots of Olive and Holm Oak trees down and some property damage (walls down, rooves gone, etc.).
The emphasis was not on birds, they were just an added bonus. Some migrant Wheatear, Whinchat, Redstart, Willow Warbler and one Reed Warbler. Also saw what was probably the same flock of 100+ Bee-eater that Mike had heading south on the 10th. Had four Eleanora´s circling and calling overhead, heard Stone Curlew in the night and also got a brief but very good close view of a Genet as we drove up to the moth trap last night. The only previous one that I´d seen was in Spring when one that had been trapped for eventual release on the mainland accommpanied us on the boat back.
Heard mention of Collared Pratincole today either at s´Albufera or the Depuradora.
The route to the Depuradora mentioned is no longer available as the area known as Son Bosc (just inland from s´Illot) is now blocked by fences. This is the area where a(nother) golf course is planned to go although it still being argued over.
Take the main coast road past the old salinas and towards C´an Picafort. at the roundabout turn right and then first exit off the next roundabout (the Sa Pobla road). The road to the Depuradora is on the right, just at the big coach garage. The turn off to the Depuradora is marked on the left some distance down the road.
