I dont know, I only know it was on the pines wood, i guess near or around the houses.
The new job is fine, with many exciting challenges ahead on Tramuntana and Dragonera
Hi Pep
Good luck with the new job. It's great news.
Good to know that the type locality (Sa Dragonera) of a Balearic Islands endemic moth that I described (Idaea acutipennis) is also in good hands.

The weather has been warm and sunny for some time and it is amazing just how many butterflies are still on the wing with good numbers of both Painted Lady and Red Admiral being the most obvious although other species are present in smaller numbers. It doesn't feel much like Christmas. Mike

This time of the year the Albufereta nature reserve is an excellent site. Some 10 days ago, 9 Greater flamingoes, 4 Great white egrets and more than 200 ducks and coot were present, among many other birds.

Yesterday morning was even better: 30 flamingoes!!!, 8 Great white egret, 49 Little egret, 8 Cattle egret, 23 Cormorant, 11 Grey heron, 24 Black-winged stilt, 260+ Shoveler, 90+ Mallard, 100+ Coot, 5 Moorhen, 2 Shelduck, 1 Pintail, 2 Marsh harriers, some 30 Lapwing, 2 Water rail (heard), 7 Red-legged partridge, 1 Common snipe, 1 Peregrine sitting on an electric pilon, and many Zitting cisticola, Blackbirds, finches, robins, warblers, etc. etc. Ah, and 56 Kentish plover on the beach. All together a great morning around the wetlands.

By the way, you can see the new platform on my facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1695031757386867.1073741836.1539834452906599

Merry Christmas to all. It has been great meeting many of you here and I look forward to seeing you again. Have a peaceful New Year, the Big Year starts again soon and I will be going flat out in January. That way I can at least be near the top, even if it's only for one month. Happy birding, Mike

Thanks Bob, yes this winter treats us with great sightings and it is really mild, though we miss some rain. By the way, the Centre for Ornithological Tourism of La Gola (CTO-LG) in Port de Pollença will reopen in February. Do not miss it!

Happy Xmas season and new year to you too, and to all members of this thread!!
All the best

Thanks Pere, I am sure many people will be visiting La Gola throughout the year, it's a great place.
I saw a Black kite today near Ses Salines. Less than a handful winter here but I have seen this one several times now. Mike

I hope you have all had a good festive season and thanks all for contributing throughout the year, some great birds seen and hopefully another good year ahead. I will start a new thread tomorrow by which time I will hopefully have ticked off all three owls (they are not difficult here in the south with Barn, Scop's and Long-eared all being present in Parc Mondrago) and Stone curlew. All the best, Mike

My back is brilliant now following surgery thanks Steve. I was in hospital twice recently for another problem and I have to go back in to have some more surgery. I am going flat out in the Bigyear hoping to be near the top this year so I hope the next operation doesn't come during migration. Some great birds around at the moment, you would enjoy the photo opportunities, even I have got some good shots! Mike
