The weather has made for a difficult day's birding today! Eventually I got garbed in the full wet weather gear (again) and ventured into the Bocquer Valley. The pine walk held several black redstarts, a few robins and chiff chaffs and a pretty obliging hoopoe. The fields in front of the Finca were alive with song thrushes, along with more black redstarts and robins. Once through the two large guarding rocks and into the valley proper it became most unpleasant - walking into the rain and the teeth of a gale! Unsurprisingly, no birds noted en route to the end. With the rain easing and the wind behind me, the return was more productive, two red-legged partridges and a blue rock thrush flushed below the main path. A fine male cirl bunting was feeding under sheltered bushes just before reaching the Finca, with even more black redstarts amongst the trees. On the way out a juvenile male blue rock thrush was showing really nicely on the edge of the rough parking area. Thinking there might be some seabirdsoffshore, Tess and I drove out to the end of Formentor. This afternoon. Without the buses and sheer number of cars of Summer, the drive was pretty relaxed, but sadly nothing was to be seen offshore. Never-the-less the sea was impressive, with deep swells and the wind whipping the tops off the white-horses! Tess enjoyed her coffee in the cafe while I amused the other visitors with my strange antics! Hoping for something better for a final day birding tomorrow. Stew
