Hi KeithHi Martin, could you please help me by identifying this caterpillar? Unfortunately it was found in Fuerteventura not Mallorca.
HiFavourites were Hoopoe and 3 Eleonora Falcons near where we were staying between Alaró and Consell.
Hi Keith
Not a problem. It's the larva of a stunning little moth, Polytela cliens (Felder & Rogenhofer, 1874), a member of the Noctuidae, Glottulinae. They feed internally (and later externally) on the bulbs, leaves and seeds of various Amaryllidaceae (including Pancratium).
See http://www.lepiforum.de/lepiwiki.pl?Polytela_Cliens
Best wishes
Martin
A big storm last night. New birds in are Garganey at Can Guidet where some Red-rumped swallows are still present. Mike
Hi Mike, where is Can Guidet?
Thanks Pep, I am going there tomorrow afternoon, I need all those species for the Bigyear! Mike
It is the itinerary number 8 at the "Mallorca Birding Map. 75 best birding points".
It is an old military non-paved path to an abandoned batteries, a very nice place to walk not only for birding but also for stunning landscapes.
Hi Mike,
Can Guidet (is a water laggon of depurated water from sewers for irrigation) it is very close to Palma and the Airport, but it is not easy to arrive because it is between small pathways in the surrondings of the urban area of Palma. (I attached a part of the Majorca Birding Map where you can find it with the number 49).
This afternoon, in middle of very cold showers and some storm, there were several red-rumped swallow (probably 20 or more), 19 garganeys and lot of crag martins and 2 o 3 sand martin.
I hope if you try you can find the Bassa of Can Guidet.
Regards
Thanks for the information Josep
