Hello,

I am new to the forum. I was recently in Mallorca, Valldemossa a small village in the mountains.
I stayed there for one week and every night without fail, I heard this bird call. Does anyone here recognise what it might be.

The call started after nightfall and continued throughout the night stopping just before the dawn chorus.

Hello,
welcome to birdforum!

It sounds like the begging call of a juvenile Long-eared Owl to me
Thanks for this, I've listened to some samples online, it does sound quite similar.

The call was very repetitive, lasting the whole evening with maybe 15 minute breaks at most, is that typical of these chicks?

Hello,

yes,I think thats ok. Normally, there is more than one young owl that beggs for food and indicating their position by the call (hard work for the parents).
They can make some break, when the young are replete (? didnt asked them). And they can change position and do this regulary.
At first, my instant gut feeling was: a 15 minute break between calling periods is a long time, but I am no expert in this (although have heard many of them over the years).
