[QUOTE="steve west, post: 1298406, member: 23426"] I agree, Peter, that something should be done. But does anyone share my growing feeling that petitions are slowly but surely losing any effectiveness they must have had at one time? Too many causes, too many internauts, making petitions too soft an option. I also agree with the sentiment of Jos that a more aggressive stance is tempting but in my experience with hunters in Spain if you face up to them it's not exactly a duel of intellect, but rather you are pitting your balls against theirs and their gun. I imagine the situation would be similar in Malta. Another thing that may be relevant is that here in Spain at least many law enforcement agents are also keen on hunting... Where does that leave us? Legal action through the courts and the European Union. It's worked in a roundabout way in parts of Spain. In Catalunya for example with the declaration of SPAs and the protection of steppeland birds. SEO-Birdlife has taken various causes to the European Union and has achieved notable victories. Is the birdlife Malta representative doing the same? (That's a genuine question and not a rhetorical one). I think we should find ways of helping them as much as possible if they are.
