As Rufforder I can only apologise for your troubles Frank. We're not immune from such types even here. Yet I would fancy leaving a bike alone in Burscough even less.

Cud you tell me was this in the car park or did you leave it somewhere around the cricket pitch?

Cricket pitch which i have done for some years without any trouble, so i have to say it could be a one off and it could have been worse as they left it more or less intact but for the seat, so it was easily fixed and by the way i live in Burscough and have left my bike in many places around here without even locking it:t::king:
Had a full day around the area on friday with bike safely in tow not much to report from Martin Mere that you could not find on their website but did get my first glimpse of the dull looking cousin of a wigeon:-O .Started with a visit to the Little Owl in orrell lane a bit skittish but very good views with care, plenty of corn buntings on curlew lane sitting on telephone wires and singing really must put some oil on that chain;) plenty of spring like activity around with possible Treecreeper nest located LTT in gorse bush by the girders Chiffchaff calling GSW drumming GCG carrying nesting material good time of year before the trees start to leaf up

Inbred wooly retards. I hate 'em. West Lancs is full of 'em. Shoot to kill.

Well all the trouble makers are expat scousers anyway so I think a nuke in the right place would solve that problem very nicely. What do you think? 8-P :-O

BTW Rufford is technically now part of South Ribble too. :t:

Where does your Mum and Dad come from. Should engage brain a bit more before engaging in hyperbole.

Dog walk this morning produced my first Wheatears just off Higgins Lane, productive area here, nice Yellowhammer too and some Linnets feeding along the edge plenty of Corn Bunting and Skylarks around too. Plenty of all the usual suspects around Mere Sands in the afternoon but nothing unusual but i still can't pin down that Blackcap pic:-C

Was at Mere Sands Wood today, second time and was priviliged to see the best Kingfisher action I have ever seen. We were in the Rufford Hide when the Kingfisher landed on one of the wire netting posts, that would have been good enough. Then it started diving in the water and returning to the post. Then it decided to fly to a perch infront of the hide and do a bit of posing. After that it went to the right of the hide, probably so the people on that side of the hide could take pics hahaha. Not finished, it perched in a tree on the other side of the water in front of the hide. It got better, flew to the post then started to hover over the water and started diving into the water. This lasted about thirty minutes, then it flew off to the right. Brilliant, I would have paid to see this. Oh, guess who left the camera in the car dohhh

Out and about today, this morning out with the dog, had Linnet, Yellowhammer, Sedge Warbler, Skylark, Goldfinch, Wren. Then biked down to Martin Mere and did a quick reccie of the reedbed walk, looks promising and they are talking about putting some hides and screens around the walk, plenty of warblers around but best was a Common Sandpiper, then on to meresands wood wherethe Reed Warbler was back on the pool at visitors centre also plenty of Damselflies around apart from a Common Blue plenty of unidentified reds also came across a Treecreepers nest which appears to have youngsters judging by the very busy parents unlike the Kingfishers who were conspicuous by their almost complete abscence, probably incubating eggs, Woodpecker and Nuthatch looking busy too.
Dont you just love this time of year, will see if there are any pics to put on later

Abandoned a planned trip to Crook o Lune yesterday because of the forecast and spent the day looking for theSpoonbill that was sitting in front of the Infocus shop but to no avail, rain rain and a little more rain:-C so decided to spend this avo at Mere Sands, not too much around and the wind was a bit of a mare just getting there should have stayed at the beer festival in burscoughB :).
Then some guy comes in and tells me about the two Spoonbills outside the infocus shop:-C nothing for it but to battle against the wind, arrived about twenty to five with no sign at said shop while andy shows the fine picture he got before they flew off:C and no reports of where they were i guessed R Barker hide, i guessed wrong i could see that UU hide was empty so with time running out i shot down to the Harrier Hide, only two people there and my heart sank for all of 5 seconds till the first bloke said as he pointed "they're over there":t: result

We have a similar sort of photograph of the Tawny Owl , Frank , though it was nice to see it . The water around the Rufford Hide is very shallow so it was no surprise to see the Kingfishers flying by rather than attempting to commit suicide by diving into it !

It didn't seem to deter the Common Terns from trying;) think the kingfishers may be sitting on eggs again as i only had one fly by on sunday too

If anyone's planning a visit to Marshside please be aware that Nel's Hide has been closed due to the drought and will not be reopened until 1st September unless a rare bird appears or we have substantial rain .

Spent a pleasant afternoon at Mere Sands rather than watch the football;) best move i ever made, finally got some pictures of the Reed Warblers by the visitors centre after some newly fledged Sedgies on the canal at slipway pub, two Common Terns getting serious on the raft, Kingfisher is not loafing around much and just missed a rather large yellow Dragonfly of some sort, will look it up and try to ID it and one moth for ID too all on site below
