[QUOTE="Matt Prince, post: 1830855, member: 52862"] Saturday 22nd May 2010 Headed down to the warren reasonably early but soon gave up looking for the black guillemot reported from yesterday. Instead we bumped into Phil opening up the centre and he agreed to point us in the right direction of some of the scarce flora of Greenland lake, in the end he showed us petalwort and small adders tongue - without him we might have found the latter, but never the former! A group of the warren regulars found us grubbing around on our knees and were momentatrily distracted - right up to news that a black kite had just flown over Haldon. Sadly despite looking longingly in the direction of the Obelisk, and scanning the hills, the raptor didn't appear over the warren. We met up with yet more of the local watchers and I found out that I'm far from the first person to be doing an 'everything' list and in deed I' ve got a long way to go to catch up with the likes of Ivan who managed 1100 from this site alone! Onwards to Exminster and initially behind the Swans Nest without much luck for the target of hairy dragonfly, with compensation in the form of various plants. Fortunately our second site along the gravel road did give up a Hairy patrolling a sheletered waterway. Final site for the day was a trip to Challacombe, and Nicola was driving us along Headland Warren when we spot a raptor with light wing loading going along the valley, a bit of frantic driving and we pitch up to find the expected harrier, is in fact a Kite - Red not black. We watched it till it disapperared over the far tor and then travelled down to the farm. Spotted flycatchers were hunting not far from thier usual spot, and the raised bog gave up several marsy plant specialists (though no sign of the hopd for bog hoverfly). All in all a good day. Sites: Dawlish Warren, Exminster, Headland Warren, Challacombe New Species : Red Kite, Spotted Fly, Broad-bodied Chaser, Hairy Dragonfly Cinnabar Moth, Yellow tail moth (Caterpillar), Small Copper, Large White, Brown Argus, Wall, Common Blue (Butterfly), Small Flowered Cranesbill, Catsear, Fragrant Evening Primrose, Houndstongue, Yellow Rattle, Sheeps Sorrel, Sea Radish, Hemlock Water Dropwort, Small Adders Tongue, Adders Tongue, Goatsbeard, Bittersweet, Common Mouse-ear, Bristly Oxtongue, Hares tail cottongrass, Bogbean, Marsh Lousewort, Bog stitchwort, Creeping Forget-me-not Totals: Birds 172 ; Dragons 5; Butters 14; Moths 25; Flora 210 GT: 600 Nicola's grips : RL Partridge, Slowworm Unidentified Stress level - moderate, plenty of doable stuff, mixed in with 'yikes wtfit?'
